Assembly Process: Step 6 - Installing Case Fans

Case Fans

Once all the components are installed and plugged in, now is the time to plug in your case fans.  In our case (pun intended), we only have one in the back for removing the hot air from the computer.  Larger cases can have room for up to 6 or more fans, but since ours won’t be generating much heat (Celeron processor with no add-on PCI cards), we don’t need much cooling power.  Unravel the cable from the fan and tuck it away where it won’t get caught in either the case fan or the heatsink fan.  Plug the 4-pin power connector into an available Molex power connector.  The fan power cable also has another power connector on it so you can daisy-chain other fans or devices to it.

We’re now done with the physical assembly of the computer, but we still have to install the operating system and device drivers before our system will work.  If you would like to see the installation of a graphics card, it is included here for your reference.
