Assembly Process: Step 2 - Install the Memory

Installing the Memory (RAM) DIMM onto the Motherboard

At this point, I also like to install the RAM before I put the motherboard inside the case.

  1. To install the RAM, we need to open the clips on both ends of the slot we will be using.  Touch your grounded power supply and push the clips away from the slot to open the track for the DIMM to slide in.

  1. Remember to only handle the RAM by the ends and NEVER by the brass pins.  The alignment is keyed by a notch in the DIMM.  Align the notch in the RAM with the notch in the socket and push down evenly on both ends of the DIMM.  It may take some downward force to get it to slide in.

  1. Secure the RAM in place by returning the clips to their original upright position, locking the DIMM into its socket.  Now we can install the motherboard into the case.
